Modify the WallCAT 5 for etherCON pass-through

  • The etherCON is connected to the left RJ45 and the XLR connectors to the right RJ45 (pictured below).
  • Once all pads have been scored, two CAT cables can be utilized to send 8 channels of analog audio over CAT.
  • Use shielded twisted pair cable for the best results.

Tools Needed:

  1. Multimeter for testing
  2. Sharp knife or cutting blade
  3. Clean and flat working surface

Place the female WallCAT 5 XLRs face down, so the back of the PCB is facing up.. 8 pads (marked J1 through J8) are pictured here before cutting

Cutting Direction

Follow the direction of the arrows (pictured) to cut through the pads, being careful not to cut through the back.

Pads shown here with cut through pad - note to only cut across the metallic foil traces of the pad and to not cut too deep.

Test continuity

With a multimeter set to 'continuity' test to insure the connection has been cut and there is no continuity. You should not have a signal between the two sides of the pad after cutting.

Pads after modification

It MAY be possible to resolder the pads to restore original state, but should be done with caution. Cover the pad carefully with solder and verify the connectivity with a continuity test using the multimeter.
